enhanced U2 route in Bassett - from 24 September

Monday, July 17 2017

We’re introducing changes to the route and timetable for the U2, which runs between Bassett and the city centre.

The update follows the closure of the Bencraft Hall of Residence on Bassett Green Road, which provided an opportunity to react to feedback from local residents and commuters, and will see the introduction of buses serving the eastern end of Bassett Green road.

Adam Tewkesbury, Transport Manager at the University of Southampton, said:

“With the closure of Bencraft Hall of Residence we wanted to take the opportunity to re-view and improve our network. Engaging with local residents has highlighted the need for public transport connections in this part of the city, and we are hopeful that this change will provide better connections for people living in the area.”

Nikki Honer, Communications Manager for Bluestar, which operates the service on behalf of the University of Southampton, added:

“In partnership with the University, we listened to our customers when they told us which enhancements they would like to see and they have been very clear about their priorities here. The change means those living or working in an area previously without a bus service, will find it easier to travel with Unilink - with buses running up to every 20 minutes. The decision to add this section to our route is all about making public transport more accessible, and we look forward to welcoming new passengers here from 24 September 2017."

NEW U2 route
The U2 will continue to serve the City Centre, University Campuses, Glen Eyre and the Flowers Estate as it does currently. On reaching the end of Lobelia Road, the new route will turn right into Bassett Green Road, serving two new stops offering easy access to the Leaside Way area. The bus will then turn right into Stoneham Lane, serving Market Buildings in Swaythling close to the shops and City Gateway Halls, returning to the University Highfield Interchange via Burgess Road.

The new U2 timetable will start from Sunday 24 September, and will be available to view here in due course.
